The owners of this 1950s ranch home first approached Thompson Young Design with an inquiry about changing the siding of the stud framed house from brick to wood. They had already removed some of the partition walls to create an open plan at the kitchen, living, and dining area, and they had installed a new kitchen with pine finishes. This existing house commands spectacular views of a tidal creek on Wadmalaw Island. It sits low to the ground, and is a few feet below the base flood elevation requirement for its flood zone. After considering the idea of re-cladding the house as well as raising it to the required elevation, the owners decided that they wished to expand the home to accommodate their family of four. Thompson Young design worked with the owners and the contractor to generate a plan for expanding the residence to the east and the west, parallel to the shore of the creek. The remodeled home will have a new master suite, great room, screen porch, and open deck to accommodate the family of four.
