Grace Bridge Memorial Competition

The concept calls on the imagery of abandoned pilings and piers which populate the lowcountry marshes and waters. The proposed copper plated light posts extend from East Bay Street to Shipyard Creek and are designed to weather in the salt air.  Topped with sky blue lights these piers define the path of the former Grace Bridge; where this path intersects the new Ravenel Bridge, the lights are secured at the elvated location. This path defines a new, safe crosswalk from the Parking Area to the Pedestrian Lane of the Ravenel Bridge. The existing concrete pier of the former bridge becomes a historic information center allowing the user to explore through images the history of the  Cooper River crossing  at this point.
