Thompson Young

Process

Design is a non-linear process. We let the site, our clients, the context, and the program inform us.

As a small firm, we have the opportunity for clear communications and to gracefully interpret a client’s intent, programmatic needs and budget. Our goal is to manage the full circle of a project, so that our clients realize that efficiency, from our initial meeting through execution.

During our initial meeting, we help our clients thoroughly assess the needs of a project, whether commercial or residential. After studying the site regulations, conservation aspects, height limits, scale and massing, as well as the surrounding context, we develop several design options based on our research. Our early work with hand sketches and 3-D software provide great visualization tools for client input and feedback, as part of our process is to ensure our clients feel their needs are heard and recognized.

Using client feedback, we zone in on a design that is most functional and appealing. Taking an integrated approach, we enlist the early input of consultants, contractors, and product representatives, to help make recommendations on mechanical systems and structures, and to offer options that will meet a client’s programmatic needs and budget. Thompson Young Design has implemented a strong quality assurance process, which involves not only design, but construction administration. We do our best to deliver your project in a timely fashion and with a listening ear.
